Like you we don't like the early morning telephone lottery to get an appointment, don't like that you have to drive in park queue, wait in an environment full of airborne bugs to have a chat, get a note, infact anything. So... we are trying to bring consults into the 21st century.
We are starting by getting rid of the book on the day system, we are releasing all the slots available in advance, most people would rather have an appointment in a few days after one call than ring back every day for a few days in hope. Real emergencies can be dealt with better as the Doctors are in the "phone zone" so can get on to you quickly and arrange follow up that might be with us or someone else but it will be the right place for you.
We are increasingly using email and really want to try online consults, we know it doesn't suit everyone but for those who work away and cant get to a phone this is a useful way of making contact.
We are increasingly asking you to email photos of rashes bumps etc that allow a quick assessment.
We have read some of the utter rubbish on the facebook site. This is not to stop people getting to us, it's to make things easier and importantly allows us to consult with more patients.
Over 70% of problems can be dealt with by phone, and if you need to be seen we can arrange bloods / investigations beforehand and plan the consult.
This system allows us to increase our number of consultation from an average of 15 to 24 a session and thus keep the waiting times down.
So that means you will be offered a variety of options. The shortest wait time is for a phone call, of 70% of patients are managed this way and importantly over 95% are very satisfied with the outcome of the call.
Face to Face consults are still available but the wait time is longer.
Nurse consultations all remain face to face.
